RE: Bright lights in neighbors back yard

You could also go to Harbor Freight and get a couple of these
http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/photos/47400-47499/47410.gif
And tell them you are afraid of breakins also.:p
Best idea yet. PS: Bright halogen SPOT lights pointed directly at bedroom windows will work better than flood lights.
Wife doesn't want a shade to keep out the light? Maybe she doesn't want it dark in the bedroom? Hmmmmm.....;)
I'd put up the shade unless she REALLY hates the idea. Plus put up your own lights that will illuminate every room in his house much better than his do yours.

RE: Bone causing obstruction?

Thanks everyone for the quick responses.
Wife took him to the vet. Seems he has an "inflamed intestine". Maybe from the rawhide or maybe something else he decided to eat on his own. We don't feed anything but quality pet food, but dogs will sometimes pick up and eat stuff in the yard or while on a walk, and wolf it down before you can react. The vet didn't even do an x-ray. He's now on meds to loosen his stool, so he's an outside dog for a couple of days. I'm glad she took him though and appreciate the advice.

Bone causing obstruction?

Our golden retriever quickly retrieved a dropped pork spare rib bone during dinner on Saturday. I managed to get to him quickly and retrieve half of the 4" bone from his mouth. But he had swallowed the other half Now, almost 4 days later, he is acting a little strange like difficulty pooping. Only lasted a few minutes though. My wife also gave him a rawhide chew bone yesterday, and I know they can also cause problems (I don't know why she does this).
Could the rib bone cause an obstruction after nearly 4 days, or is it more likely the rawhide bone? We've examined the poop we can find and haven't noticed anything unusual. Thanks

RE: Splicing a water hose??

I never use plastic. Copper or brass(?) fittings, and good old fashioned SS hose clamps have never failed me. I've got some that have been in use for 10+ years.

RE: You'll never guess what I saw !!

I can beat that. Some years ago we were at an RV park in Glen Rose, TX, and the people next to us opened the blackwater tank valve before pulling out, leaving a trail. Next to us, down the road, etc..
I reported it and the mgmt. quickly came out to clean up the mess.

RE: Hou do you handle a road rage situation?

Your story sounds serious, but I can tell you a funny one that happened to me a few months back. I was on my way to work on the freeway and traffic was fairly heavy but still moving at 60 mph. I was in the center lane of the three lanes. A car pulled right up on my rear within inches from my bumper. I could see the guy in the car pounding on his steering wheel and mouthing words to me. So I slowed down a little to make sure I blocked him in behind me with a truck to my right side and a car on my left. Eventually he was able to get around the truck on the right and as he pulled up next me on the right he gave me the one finger salute and I smiled at him. That got him even more ticked off so he raced forward and swerved right in front of me cutting me off. Bad luck for him though since I'm a cop and I was in an unmarked police car. I turned on the emergency lights and even added the siren for effect and pulled him over. I approached the right side of his car and said, "I bet you had no idea what you were doing to a cop did you?" Strangely, he was nice and poolite, but I still called for a CHP unit to come by and had the guy cited for tailgating and unsafe lane change. I gave him a big break because his actions were actually reckless driving, but since his attitude improved he only got a $500 ticket instead of a $2500 misdemeanor ticket. I bet he's more careful in the future about who he does that too.
Come on Mark, I figured you as a better person than that. The guy was not speeding, he wanted to pass you but you delibertly blocked him in, making him more and more upset, basically CAUSING road rage. I know you are a cop but the type of behavior in this situation is what give cops such a bad rap. What if he was on the way to the hospital to see his recently injured wife who was taken in by ambulace? Sometimes people are in a hurry, if he wasn't speeding, you should have let him pass like a gentleman, not added to his behavior. Seem like entrapment to me.
The guy is tailgating a COP, apparently already in a rage (pounding his steering wheel, etc.) and you say just let him pass? I would fully expect the cop to stop him and give him a ticket. Maybe making him madder wasn't the thing to do, but just letting him go his own way could have meant disaster for someone else. The guy needed a lesson on what could happen. He got it.

RE: snakes,, NOT pets

I thought the right to shoot snakes in your backyard was why people lived in Texas?
No, it's the right to shoot PEOPLE (who break into our homes, etc.).
Mothballs DO work for snakes, BTW.
